National Women’s Day was originally observed on February 28, 1909, in New York by the Socialist Party of America. Theresa Malkiel, a labor organizer, proposed this as a way to commemorate protests against garment workers in the city. Later in 1910, German delegates advocated the notion of a women’s day, drawing inspiration from American socialists, though no exact date was set.

This day is significant because it is a day when the world celebrates women’s accomplishments, raises awareness about gender equality, and accelerates gender parity, as well as fundraisers for various female-focused charities.
